PhD programs

by admin last modified 2007-04-05 15:07

The PhD Programs of the DIGS-BB offer structured training programs composed of mandatory and elective modules. Each PhD Program provides an in-depth expert training in program-specific research areas for enrolled PhD students, and training modules specifically offered for PhD students of the other programs. While the extent and structure of the training is the same in each of the three PhD programs, the contents are defined according to the research area and specific methods relevant to this field. Central training offered by the DIGS-BB is open to all PhD students, and by such closely links the PhD programs to the benefit of the students.

Graduate training at the Dresden International Graduate School for Biomedicine and Bioengineering is research-oriented, and each PhD student is directly affiliated with one of the participating research groups, in which most of the thesis work is conducted. Faculty members have a primary affiliation with one of the PhD programs offered, however, this does not mean that a PhD student participating in a different DIGS-BB PhD program may not be hosted in this group.

International MD/PhD Program for Regenerative Medicine (RegMed Program)

The RegMed Program will provide training and translational research towards a career in research in biomedical sciences, including e.g. stem cell biology, molecular medicine and regenerative biology. The RegMed Program is open for medical graduates with the opportunity to carry out a full-time doctoral thesis at the end of which they will receive an MD/PhD, and to students of natural sciences who wish to enter medically-oriented research towards a PhD.

International PhD Program for Nanobiotechnology, Biophysics and Bioengineering (NanoBio Program)

The NanoBio Program will provide interdisciplinary training and research opportunities for University Graduates who wish to work towards a PhD in the fields of Biophysics, Bioengineering, or Nano(bio)technology. The underlying concept is to combine a molecular approach towards biology with cutting edge nanotechnology. One strategy is to make use of the wide variety of molecular functions provided by nature’s “nanomachines” such as proteins and enzymes, as a basis for an innovative and new molecular-based nanobiotechnology.
