Admission requirements
In general, applicants are expected to be among the top of those qualified to enter a PhD program in their home country. Applications are invited from all countries.
Undergraduate studies
Students from all disciplines of life and natural sciences, medicine and engineering are welcome to apply.
University Degree
Applicants who hold, or anticipate receiving in the relevant time period after their admission, an undergraduate degree that allows them to enter doctoral programs in their home country are eligible to be admitted to the DIGS-BB. In general, the following academic qualifications are required:
Austria: Diplom
Belgium: Licentiaat/Licencié
Denmark: Cand. Scient.
Finland: Lisensiaatti or FK
France: DEA or course of study at a "grande école"
Germany: Diplom or Masters
Greece: Diploma
Israel: Master
Italy: Laurea
Netherlands: Doctoraal examen
Norway: Cand. med., Cand. scient., Siv. ing.
Portugal: Licenciatura
Spain: Licenciado or Ingeniero Superior
Sweden: Fil. Kand. or Högskoleexamen
Switzerland: Diplom
United Kingdom: BSc Hons. degree - at least upper second class.
For candidates entering the program with a BSc degree or equivalent, additional requirements to be completed during the PhD thesis will be defined on a case-to-case basis. Candidates holding a medical degree must have completed the course of study, including the exam equivalent to the German 2nd State Exam, before starting their PhD thesis.
Language
The language of the DIGS-BB is English. Proficiency in English is therefore required, and applicants might be contacted by phone for assessment. However, a formal proof of English proficiency (GRE, TOEFL) is not requested.
